Just wow.

On April 1 – NEW SENTENCING GUIDELINES WILL COME INTO FORCE – OPENLY DISCRIMINATING AGAINST WHITE INDIVIDUALS AND GIVING PREFERENCIAL TREATMENT TO ETHNIC MINORITES AND MUSLIMS!!

Despite the ‘protest’ which has developed in the past couple of weeks, there is little doubt that these will be put into force on the stated date.

UK Sentencing Guidelines 2025

The Sentencing Council has published comprehensive new guidance on imposing community and custodial sentences in England and Wales, which will come into effect on 1 April 2025. This guideline aims to provide courts with the most comprehensive information about the circumstances of the offender and the offence, and the range of possible sentencing options, so that they can impose a tailored sentence that is the most suitable and appropriate for the offender and offence before them.5

Key points of the new guidelines include:

  • The guideline applies to all offenders aged 18 and older who are sentenced on or after the effective date of the guideline.25
  • It places greater emphasis on the critical role of pre-sentence reports (PSRs) in sentencing decisions and provides more information on the function and scope of the requirements courts can attach to community orders and suspended sentence orders.5
  • The guideline includes an entirely new section that considers the purposes and effectiveness of sentencing and includes new evidence the courts should consider when sentencing young adults, female offenders, mothers with dependent children, and pregnant and post-natal offenders.5

The new guidelines have sparked controversy, with some ministers arguing that they amount to a “two-tier system” of justice, particularly due to the emphasis on the ethnic background of offenders in determining whether to jail them.4

The guidelines also address the need to ensure that sentences punish offenders and protect the public, while ensuring there is always space in prison for the most dangerous offenders.3

These guidelines are part of a broader review of sentencing practices in England and Wales, aimed at addressing capacity pressures on the prison system and ensuring that the country is not again in a position where it has more prisoners than prison places.
